The practice

Strategy, paid media, and research for campaigns, advocacy organizations, and mission-driven groups. City council through Congress, and the coalitions in between. I work directly with every client and bring in specialists when the work calls for it.

Strategy

Every effective campaign, advocacy push, or cause marketing effort starts with a clear read of the landscape. I work directly with candidates, nonprofit leaders, and advocacy teams to build plans grounded in data, local knowledge, and an honest assessment of where you actually stand.

This isn't templated work. Whether you're running for city council, launching a statewide advocacy campaign, or building a coalition around a cause, the fundamentals are the same: know who you need to reach, know what to say to them, and have a plan to say it at scale.

Capabilities

Campaign and advocacy plan design
Messaging development and testing
Stakeholder mapping and coalition building
Communications and media strategy
Staff and volunteer structure planning
Community engagement strategy
Brand development for causes and campaigns
Nonprofit and advocacy fundraising strategy

Paid media

Strategy only works if it reaches people. I run full-channel paid media programs: targeted digital, direct mail, phones, and peer-to-peer texting, from creative through optimization. Some of the most efficient programs I've run were on the tightest budgets.

Digital advertising

Display, video, CTV, and social. Audience targeting, creative, and ongoing optimization.

Direct mail

Persuasion mail, voter contact pieces, advocacy materials, and nonprofit outreach, design through delivery.

Call center

Auto and power dial for voter outreach, donor calls, volunteer coordination, and survey research.

Peer-to-peer texting

Personalized SMS for event mobilization, fundraising, voter reminders, and rapid response.

Research

Good strategy requires good information. Audience analysis, opposition and landscape research, public data mining, and the assessments that inform every other decision.

For advocacy and legislative clients, I also run a managed legislative tracking service: bill and legislator monitoring across all 50 states and Congress, configured and watched by me, delivered as daily briefings and alerts rather than a login you have to learn.

Social and media signal tracking

Clients

Roughly twenty-five since 2019. About half came back for a second cycle.

"In the 2020 pandemic election, Cascading Strategies helped our campaign stay adaptive and flexible in an unprecedented environment. Working within the constraints of a limited publicly financed budget, and a large electorate, they provided strong strategic planning, steady team management, and smart digital communications that allowed us to break through. The result was a historic victory under extraordinary circumstances."
Mingus Mapps, Portland City Commissioner
"Running in a competitive congressional primary with limited resources is never easy. Cascading Strategies helped us stretch every dollar further than I thought possible. Despite significant fundraising constraints, their efficient digital advertising program and disciplined field operation delivered a higher voter-per-dollar return than campaigns with far larger budgets."
Eric Wilson, candidate for Congress, WI-03
"Facing a well-organized challenge from the county Republican Party chair, I knew this race would require discipline and smart strategy. With a budget of less than $4,000, Cascading Strategies built a focused mail program and a strong digital outreach effort that maximized every dollar. Their planning and execution helped secure my third term on the Outagamie County Board of Supervisors."
Steve Thiede, Outagamie County Board of Supervisors
"Cascading Strategies brought thoughtful strategy and disciplined execution to our In This Together campaign. By strengthening relationships with key partners in the bipartisan bridge-building space and building a large-scale outreach program, they helped extend our partner network's reach by over 100,000 voters."
Bill Shireman, In This Together America
